Location

Oosterparkbuurt, Amsterdam

Located in a historic 1912 building in the vibrant eastern district of Amsterdam, Upper East is a deeply personal project designed as both a private sanctuary and a living showcase of the studio's design philosophy. The spatial narrative begins with a deliberate, striking gesture right at the entrance. To create an unforgettable impression upon arrival, the space features a bold, deep red ceiling that deliberately pushes conventional design boundaries, injecting immediate character and architectural warmth into the historic home.

The entire apartment is meticulously curated to display a vast, diverse collection of contemporary art, photography, books, and antique objects. Rather than turning the residence into a sterile showroom, these pieces are seamlessly woven into the daily flow of the space, allowing them to be lived with and experienced naturally. The living areas strike a beautiful balance between classical structure and a fresh, eclectic sensibility, where pure materials and rich textures take center stage.

At the heart of the home is a highly social kitchen, crafted specifically as a gathering place for hosting long dinners with large groups of friends. To maximize the urban footprint, the layout introduces a clever, modern twist on the classic Amsterdam ensuite doors. By utilizing paneled doors, the space effortlessly transitions into a multi-functional guest suite and intimate TV lounge, ensuring the entire home feels open, interconnected, and profoundly lived-in.
